Choir trip to Austria

Members of Sacred Heart Academy’s choir took part in a nine-day trip to Austria June 24 to July 3.
The choir participated in the Mozart! Festival Finale Concert in Salzburg, Austria, where they sang in Salzburger Dom, the 17th-century Baroque cathedral of the Archdiocese of Salzburg.
The students also performed in the sanctuary of the Abbey of St. Florian, the Royal Chapel of Schonbrunn and St. Nicholas Church.
During their trip, the students toured Schloss Leopoldskron, where “The Sound of Music” was filmed; Mozart Square; and Burgkapelle, the home of the Vienna Boys Choir.

Kindergarten fun

The next Kindergarten Countdown event is today, July 10, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Northeast YMCA Calypso Cove, 9400 Mill Brook Road, for children with last names N to Z.
The Walden Theatre, 1123 Payne Street, will host a Kindergarten Countdown event on July 11 at 1 p.m.
On July 12 at 10 a.m., Kindergarten Countdown participants are invited to the Louisville Free Public Library Main Branch, 301 York Street, for a performance by StageOne Family Theatre.

Bible school

Holy Trinity Church in Fredericktown, Ky., and Holy Rosary Church in Manton, Ky., will hold Vacation Bible School featuring “Amazing Angels and Super Saints” from July 28 to Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. to noon each day. The program is free. For more information or to register, call 859-284-5242.

Humana scholars

Cassidy Boyd and Victoria Hagan, both eighth-graders at Notre Dame Academy, have received the 2014 Catholic Education Foundation’s Humana Scholars Award sponsored by the Humana Foundation.
The award acknowledges achievement and commitment to a healthy lifestyle, a news release from the school said.

Merit scholar

Coleman Cox, a 2014 graduate of St. Xavier High School, has been awarded a National Merit scholarship sponsored by Vanderbilt University.
