Candy bouquets

Students at Our Lady of Lourdes School have donated items to the children in the Addison Jo Blair Cancer Center at Kosair Children’s Hospital.
The students made activity kits and candy bouquets with personalized get-well cards for the children in the cancer unit. The Our Lady of Lourdes students decided to make activity kits because the children in the cancer unit spend so much time in treatment, a news release from the school said.
“The activity kits are a great way to help pass time and make their day,” the release said.
The candy sucker bouquets were made because sometimes chemotherapy treatments leave a bad taste in the children’s mouths, the release said.
The students delivered the hand-made items to the hospital lobby on Jan. 30.

Schools week

St. Xavier High School students, faculty and staff donated $650 to the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association during Catholic Schools Week.  A blood drive was also held on Jan. 31 and 202 pints of blood were collected, an increase from last year’s collection.

Service activity

Notre Dame Academy completed two service activities in January. The school collected 71 coats for the Burlington coat drive. The school also hosted a shoe drive for WaterStep, a non-profit organization that builds water filtration systems in underdeveloped countries.

Be a P.A.L. Day

Holy Trinity School will host “Be a P.A.L. Day” (Peacebuilder at Lunch) during lunch on Feb. 5. This is a day where thousands of schools around the world offer the message to encourage all to practice compassion daily in all interactions, to be kind to everyone and to give others a chance, a news release from the school said.
The event will take place in the cafeteria and have balloons, live music and performances by musical guest Tim Lickteig and Justin Lewis.
Students also are encouraged to take a different seat in the cafeteria and sit with classmates with whom they do not normally sit.
