Documentary

Trinity High School students viewed the documentary “A Potter’s Field” at the school in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving.

The documentary followed members of the St. Joseph of Arimathea Society at Trinity, St. Xavier and Assumption high schools. These students act as pall bearers and provide a Christian burial service for deceased individuals in Jefferson County who do not have the funds to be buried in a private cemetery.

Buddy Dumeyer from the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office spoke about the connection between gratitude and service at the school’s Thanksgiving prayer service Nov. 25.

Trinity is also using the film as a stepping stone to raise money for “Be A Memory Maker,” a non-profit organization that purchases grave markers for those who cannot afford them.

Dare to Care

Trinity High School’s annual Dare to Care food drive netted the food bank approximately 191 pounds of non-perishable food.

In addition, the school also presented a check in the amount of $7,670.08 to the organization. Trinity teachers Bernie Schum and Dave Case organized the drive.

Letters of intent

Three St. Xavier High School seniors signed national letters of intent to participate in college athletics next year.

They are: Austin Clemons (baseball), University of Louisville; Connor Underwood (baseball), Kentucky Wesleyan College; and Brendon Doyle (golf), Indiana University.

State champs

Assumption High School’s field hockey team won the state championship by defeating Sacred Heart Academy 1-0 on Nov. 2 at Bellarmine University. The winning goal was scored by sophomore Kate Miller. It was the Rockets’ eighth overall state field hockey title and the first title since 2009.

Art honor

Sarah Hammond, a junior at Sacred Heart Academy, was selected by CelebratingArt.com from thousands of entries from high schools across the U.S. as a Top 10 Best in Grade entries in its summer contest. As a Top 10 artist, Hammond will receive special recognition in the art anthology, Celebrating Art, and be awarded a monetary gift.

Hammond completed her artwork as an independent study that was part of the requirements to be accepted into the Sacred Heart Academy International Baccalaureate art program.
