Fashion show

In partnership with Heather French Henry, Miss America 2000, Mercy Academy will host its 2012
mother-daughter fashion show. Henry will emcee the fashion show, featuring her line of gowns and cocktail dresses. The event will be held at the Galt House Hotel March 11, beginning at noon. The cost per person is $25, which includes lunch. For more information, call 671-2021 or send an email to mercyacademy@mail.com.

Green award

The UPS Louisville Green Team presented its first Green Legacy Award Feb. 8 to Trinity High School junior Matthew Addison. Addison was recognized for the cleanup work he completed last year along the Little Barren River in Green County, Ky.

Young writers

Two Mercy Academy students have been named finalists in the Actors Theatre of Louisville New Voices Young Playwrights Contest. “Famiglia Scomoda” by Madeline Schmitt and “Chaqueta” by Erin Miller were recognized among the 451 plays submitted this year.

Scholarships

Trinity High School seniors Gage Richardson and Eric Witte received scholarships valued at more than $180,000 on Feb. 16 from Dr. Sue DeWine, president of Hanover University. Rich-ardson received one of Han-over’s highest awards, the Benjamin Templeton Scholarship.

Player of year

Assumption High School senior Katie George was named PrepVolleyball.com’s 2011 National Player of the Year.
George, who suffered from a pulmonary embolism just before her senior season, led Assumption to a 43-1 record, a second consecutive Kentucky state title and the number-three spot in the final PrepVolleyball.com Century Club national rankings.

Theater

  • Mercy Academy will present “The Diary of Anne Frank” March 1 to 4 at the Stock Yards Bank Theatre at Mercy, 5801 Fegenbush Lane. Performance times will be March 1 at 4 p.m., March 2 and 3 at 8 p.m. and March 4 at 3 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens and children under 12.
  • St. Stephen Martyr School’s kindergarten through fourth-grade drama club will perform “AnGo Fish” March 9 at 7 p.m. at Providence High School in Clarksville, Ind. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.

Mixer

John Paul II Academy will host a mixer at St. Pius X Church’s gym March 4 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. for seventh- and eighth-grade students. The cost is $8.
