Gifts of the Heart

Sixth-grade students at Notre Dame Academy raised $2,300 for the St. Vincent de Paul Society’s Gifts from the Heart program. The students used the money to purchase Christmas gifts for needy children and families.

Holiday concerts

  • Trinity High School’s Department of Performing Arts will hold its annual Christmas concerts featuring the Trinity Chorus and the Trinity Jazz Band on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. Both concerts will be in the Trinity Auditorium, 115 N. Sherrin Avenue. Admission is free.
  • The Mercy Academy choir will hold a Christmas concert Dec. 9 at  3 p.m. in the Stock Yards Bank Theatre on Mercy’s campus, 5801 Fegenbush Lane. Admission is free.
  • Presentation Academy’s annual Christmas Choral Concert will be Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Auditorium, 970 S. Fourth Street. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages six to 12. Children six and under are free.
  • Assumption High School will host its annual Music Department Christmas Concert Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Humana Foundation Performing and Fine Arts Center on Assumption’s campus located at 2170 Tyler Lane. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. Children under five are free.

Theater

Sacred Heart School for the Arts will present “The Nutcracker” Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. and Dec. 8 and 9 at 2 p.m. at the Ursuline Arts Center, building #5, on the Ursuline Campus, 3105 Lexington Rd. Tickets for the Dec. 7 morning performance are $4.

Tickets for evening and afternoon performances are $5 for students and seniors and $8 for adults. Tickets can be purchased online at www.showtix4u.com/ or at the door. Reserved seating is available. For more information, call 897-1816.

Refugee simulation

On Nov. 28 and 29, students at Trinity High School experienced a simulation of what it’s like to live in a refugee camp. Students also experienced what it’s like to be a refugee and cross a border from one country to another. They also took part in a medical evaluation and in a language proficiency experience. Following the event, students wrote a paper describing their feelings about the experience.

Trinity’s theology department was a partner with Catholic Charities for this program.

Art show

The Assumption High School art department will host its annual Art Show Dec. 8 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in The Humana Foundation Performing and Fine Arts Center, 2170 Tyler Lane. The pieces of art were created over the past semester and include paintings, drawings, 3-D pieces and graphic art. There is no cost and all members of the community are welcome.
