Eagle Scout
Michael Schultz has earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Schultz is a member of Troop 376, sponsored by St. Athanasius Church, 5915 Outer Loop.
For his Eagle Scout Leadership Project, Schultz designed and installed an outdoor Stations of the Cross on the St. Athanasius campus. According to a news release from the church, Schultz created this project “to offer an opportunity for personal prayer and outdoor enjoyment to parishioners.”
Father Gary Davis, pastor of St. Athanasius, will dedicate the outdoor Stations of the Cross at the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Dec. 1.

Essay Contest
Out of 268 entries, 32 finalists, including several students from Catholic schools, were chosen in the “Write Stuff” teen essay contest. Students were asked to share their personal experiences and reflections of what it’s like to live with cancer. The contest was sponsored by Gilda’s Club, a cancer support organization.
In the category of teens connected to someone who has or had cancer, Rebecca Sauer, a student at Presentation Academy, placed first. Abby Sullivan, an Assumption High School student, came in second.
In the category of teens who had cancer themselves, Heather Kays, a student at Bethlehem High School in Bardstown, Ky., placed first. Patrick McSweeney, a student at St. Margaret Mary School, placed second, and Cole Schuhmann, a student at St. Xavier High School, came in third.
State champs
Assumption High School held a victory celebration for its state championship cross country team Nov. 15. This is the third straight state championship and fifth in six years for Assumption runners.
With a first place finish, junior Bailey Davis became the school’s first individual state champion in cross country. Junior Emily Bean came in third and Katherine Receveur, also a junior, placed fourth.
