Joey Shaw, a 2012 graduate of Trinity High School, has been invited to participate in the Brown Fellows Program Class of 2012-2016. Shaw will join 19 other incoming college freshmen chosen for this individualized development program.

According to a news release from the James Graham Brown Foundation, the Brown Fellows are a group of diverse high achieving undergraduate students who build leadership skills and a global perspective through the program. This year’s class is comprised of students from seven states and two countries. Brown Fellows are selected based on scholastic attainment, intellectual leadership, visionary thinking and exemplary community involvement, the release said.

The Brown Fellows program is a partnership of Centre College and the University of Louisville. Brown Fellows receive full tuition, room and board, funding for three enrichment experiences and international travel as a group before their freshman year.

In July, Shaw and other members of this year’s incoming class will travel to Istanbul, Turkey, and surrounding areas to study the economic, cultural and historic aspects of the country.

Gabrielle Fong, a recent graduate of Mercy Academy, has been recognized as a 2011-2012 Discus Award winner for her achievements in the areas of academics, community service and government. The Discus awards is a national program that provides recognition and scholarship opportunities to outstanding high school students.

St. Xavier High School has been recognized by the Web Marketing Association’s 2012 Mobile Web Awards for a Best School Mobile Application. This recognition coincides with St. Xavier’s iPad technology initiative which will be launched with the start of the school year this August. Every freshman and sophomore at the school will receive school-issued iPads for use during their time at St. X.
