Debate tourneys

The debate teams of Assumption and Trinity high schools have won awards in recent competitions.

  • Assumption students took top awards in the Wilson Wyatt Debate League’s tournament. In the varsity public forum debate, the junior team of Kait Petter and Raegan Davis was the tournament champion.
    Davis also was recognized as the top speaker in varsity public forum.
    In the novice Lincoln Douglas debate, freshman Sarah Daus was the tournament runner up.
    The following students received speaker awards: Molly Livingston, Sarah Daus, Correna Tate, Kennedy Nodler, Emilee Weston, Rachel Finefrock, Grace Gardone, Kailyn Deitz, Kait Petter and Brigit Gillespie.
  • Two Trinity students advanced to the state level of competition in the Beeler/Hamm Swing Tournament hosted by Lafayette and Rowan County high schools.
    Antonio Clements advanced to the broadcasting final in the Beeler tournament and qualified to compete at the state tournament in March.
    In the Hamm tournament, Drew Smith advanced to finals in broadcasting.

Letter of intent

Tony Meyer, a senior at Trinity High School, signed a national letter of intent to participate in college athletics Jan. 21. Meyer will play baseball at Brescia University.

1,000 point club

Nora Kiesler, a senior at Assumption High School, recently scored the 1,000th point of her Assumption varsity basketball career.
Kiesler has a 4.0 grade point average and has committed to play basketball at Purdue University after her graduation this May.
