Pushups for veterans
Jack Chauvin, a seventh-grader at St. Margaret Mary School, has planned a program called “Pushups for Charity: Louisville” in recognition of Veteran’s Day. The event will take place Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. at Green Acres Farm, 7701 Greenlawn Road. The Louisville event is part of the national Pushups for Charity campaign, which kicked off last May 17, on Armed Forces Day.
People of all ages can join in the event, which challenges participants to do as many pushups as possible in 90 seconds. Participants are also encouraged to consider making a donation that will benefit the nation’s veterans. Jack’s dad, McKay Chauvin, will officiate the counting of pushups at the event Nov. 8.
According to a news release, Jack hopes Louisville participants complete 5,000 pushups and contribute $5,000 toward the national goal.
The national effort, now in its fifth year, aims for 1.4 million pushups “representing the 1.4 million men and women currently serving in the military,” the release said. Proceeds benefit The Boot Campaign, a non-profit organization which helps veterans by providing jobs, housing, education, wellness, urgent assistance and family support.
In 2013, Pushups for Charity raised more than $600,000, the release said.

Veteran’s Day
St. Xavier High School will hold a Veteran’s Day ceremony on its campus Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. to honor alumni who have served or are serving in the military and also to dedicate a new monument honoring servicemen.
The 30-minute ceremony will feature guest speaker and 1964 alumnus, Major General Edward W. Tonini, who is responsible for recruiting, training and the mobilization of more than 8,400 members of the Kentucky Army and Air National Guard, a news release from the school said.

Fall plays
-Assumption High School will present “The Drowsy Chaperone” Nov. 6, 7, 8 and 9 at 7 p.m.

-Trinity High School will present “All in the Timing” Nov. 6, 8, 11, 12, 13 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. All performances will be in the Trinity Auditorium, 115 N. Sherrin Avenue.

-Presentation Academy will present “Beauty and the Beast,” Nov. 7, 8, 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.

All-American
Sam Stockton, a senior at Trinity High School, has been selected to play in the fourth annual Boys High School All-American Soccer Game in Raleigh, N.C., on Dec. 13.
Stockton is one of 20 members selected to be on the West squad. The event is sponsored in part by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, Adidas, Unicosports and Soccer.com.
World Food Day
-Sacred Heart Preschool students ages three to five worked together with Cross Catholic Outreach and joined Catholics across the nation Oct. 16 to observe World Food Day.
The worldwide event is designed to increase awareness and engage students in the fight against hunger and malnutrition, according to news release from the school.
The preschool families and faculty each donated $1 on World Food Day, which is the price to purchase and ship four Vitafood meals to hungry children in developing countries around the globe. Sacred Heart Preschool families and faculty raised enough to purchase 344 Vitafood meals.
-Sacred Heart Preschool students also donated 700 quarters — $175 — to fight world hunger. The students earned the quarters by performing chores around their homes. The students lined the quarters up in the hall of the preschool to count them. The line stretched for 58 feet.
Open House
Sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students are invited to visit Mercy Academy for an open house Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tours will begin every ten minutes.
The open house is a chance for families to tour the 24-acre campus, meet current students and speak with teachers about curriculum and academic programs. Coaches and representatives from extra-curricular programs, the counseling department and the business office will also be present.
