Scholar Fest

Assumption High School hosted its third annual “Scholar Fest: A Symposium” Sept. 15 at the school’s Humana Foundation Performing and Fine Arts Center.
The Scholar Fest is an opportunity for Assumption’s McAuley Scholars to present findings from their four years of independent research. Each student’s work “culminated with publication of a high school thesis and their presentation at the symposium,” a news release from the school said.
The topics presented included:
“Storytelling: The Importance that Lies Between the Lines,” by Taylor Duvall; “Investing in Girls: How Education of Women Helps Build Communities and Confidence,” presented by Erin Raque; “Recognizing Responsibilities: The Role of the Food Industry in Childhood Obesity,” by Sarah Simon; “More than Companions: Animals, the Aids to Our Mind and Body,” by Maddy Ramser; “Psychopathy: The Limbic System and Other Causes,” by Caroline Dolt; and “Symbiosis: The World of Dreams and The World of Reality,” by Mirabella Vallejo.

Youth council

Braden Barnett, a junior at Trinity High School, has been accepted to the Louisville Youth Philanthropy Council (LYPC).
The LYPC teaches students who have a “passion for making a difference in their communities the principles and practices of philanthropy through a hands-on learning experience,” a news release from the school said.
The group meets 15 Saturdays from September to March and has awarded more than $100,000 to local charities since 2007, the release said.

Mission trip

David Bunnell and Ben Baughman, both seniors at Trinity High School, participated in a mission trip to Guatemala.
The students worked with the organization Mission Guatemala to begin construction on a school kitchen. When it is completed, the school will provide more than 500 meals a day to students who otherwise might go hungry, a news release from the school said.
