Vocation event for youth will be held in Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. — A vocation program for seventh- and eighth-grade students, as well as students in high school, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 25 at St. James Church in Elizabethtown, Ky.

The event was coordinated and organized by seminarian Tony Cecil, who, according to a news release from the Archdiocese of Louisville Vocation Office, participated as an intern at One Bread-One Cup events for two years at St. Meinrad. That participation, the release said, gave Cecil “great insight into the role and creativity of young people in the church.”

The event will feature eucharistic adoration, vocation witness talks through reflection, prayers, music, question and answer sessions and a meal featuring pizza.

The news release also noted that Cecil took to heart something that Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz has said at various locations about the nature of promoting vocations. The archbishop has often said that promoting vocations is not something limited to a couple of people, but the mission is shared by everyone. And he has noted that seminarians are in a great position to bear witness to their vocational call.

Also taking part in the event, called “Chosen by God: Priesthood? Religious Life? Marriage? Single Life? What has he chosen for you?” are St. James youth minister Anne Evertz; the parish pastor, Father Martin Linebach; and Father Ben Brown. Deacon Shayne Duvall will also present a talk during the event, and

Benedictine Father Brendan Moss will also be a part of the program.
During a panel discussion that will take place during the meal, the young people will hear from Maria Vivona, a parishioner at Holy Spirit Church and a recent graduate of Indiana University Southeast. She will be leaving shortly to joining the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco in New Jersey.
