Ursuline Sr. Emily Peetz, who served in education and parish ministry, dies

Ursuline Sister Emily Peetz died Jan. 2 at the University of Louisville Hospital. She was 89 and had been an Ursuline Sister of Louisville since 1943.

Sister Peetz, a native of Sidney, Neb., served in education and pastoral ministry in Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, South Carolina, Minnesota and Kentucky. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she taught at St. Elizabeth of Hungary and St. Helen schools. She served as principal of St. Rita School and served as a pastoral associate at the old St. Vincent de Paul Church.

In addition, Sister Peetz volunteered at Louisville area hospitals and health care facilities from 1998 to 2012.

She is survived by her sister, Katharine Moore, sister-in-law Connie Mangold, nieces, nephews and the Ursuline community.

Vitiation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 7 at the Ursuline Motherhouse, 3115 Lexington Road. A vigil service begins at 7 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Jan. 8 at the Ursuline Motherhouse Chapel. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery.
