Ursuline Sister Yvonne Moran dies at age 90

Ursuline Sister of Louisville Yvonne Moran, 90, died Sept. 8 at Mercy Sacred Heart.

Sister Moran was a native of Louisville and entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1942, the same year she graduated from Sacred Heart Academy.

In Louisville, she taught at St. Vincent de Paul School from 1944 to 1946, Our Mother of Sorrows from 1946 to 1948, St. George School from 1954 to 1956, St. Peter Claver School from 1960 to 1962 and St. Rita School from 1963 to 1967. Sister Moran also taught at schools in Indiana and Mississippi.

Sister Moran published children’s plays and poems in Catholic journals and magazines. She also wrote and designed primary-grade activity books for the Daughters of St. Paul Books & Media in Boston.

Sister Moran also served as a housemother and child care worker at St. Joseph Children’s Home from 1970 to 1973 and as a cook at Angela Merici High School Convent from 1973 to 1975, followed by a ministry of service at the Ursuline Motherhouse, Nazareth Home and the former Marian Home from 1975 to 2001. In 2001, she became a resident of the former Marian Home until she moved to Mercy Sacred Heart in 2010.

She is survived by her sister Nancye Inman of Naples, Fla., her sister-in-law Anita Moran of Louisville, nieces, nephews and members of her religious community.

Visitation will be at the Ursuline Motherhouse, 3115 Lexington Road, Sept. 18 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. in the Ursuline Motherhouse Chapel with burial in St. Michael Cemetery.
