Christopher Collins, a senior at Trinity High School, earned the highest possible score of 36 on the June 2014 administration of the ACT.

Collins, a parishioner at St. James Church, is captain of the Quick Recall team at Trinity. He is also involved in the archery club, the math team, the National Honor Society and the electronics club. He was one of three Trinity students named as a National Merit semifinalist this fall.

Outside of the classroom, Collins has volunteered with a number of organizations, including the Sisters of Mercy convent located on Tyler Lane behind Assumption High School. Since seventh grade, Collins has regularly visited with Sister of Mercy Mary Magdala Janz.

Together the two talked about a wide range of topics, including politics, theology and what is going on in each other’s lives, Collins said in an interview at the school.

“She is wise and smart; she is incredibly kind; and she volunteers to be a guinea pig for my baked goods,” he said.

Mark Amick, Collins’ chemistry teacher and Quick Recall coach, said Collins’ perfect ACT score was “an impressive accomplishment” but noted that Collins is extremely humble about his accolades.

Collins isn’t one to brag or boast about his accomplishment but does describe himself as persistent, tenacious, funny and curious.

Amick said Collins interacts well with his teammates and “has their full support as the leader of the team.”

Collins said he has grown from a kid to a young adult during his four years at Trinity.

“Trinity focuses on promoting integrity in their students, or ‘men of character.’ They try to teach us to do the right thing and live moral lives as adults,” he said.

Collins is interested in studying physical chemistry or chemical engineering next year in college.
