Three seminarians ordained transitional deacons

Deacons Tony Cecil, Steven Reeves and Kirby Rust were ordained to the transitional diaconate March 24 at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown, Ky.

Deacons Cecil and Reeves attend St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in Southern Indiana, and Deacon Rust attends Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Deacon Tony Cecil publicly declares his intent to undertake the ministry of the diaconate and promises respect and obedience to Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz and his successors.
Deacon Steven Reeves publicly declares his intent to undertake the ministry of the diaconate and promises respect and obedience to Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz and his successors.
Deacon Kirby Rust publicly declares his intent to undertake the ministry of the diaconate and promises respect and obedience to Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz and his successors.
The three candidates lie prostrate and the congregation kneels as the Litany of Supplication is sung.

Deacon Tony Cecil received the Book of the Gospels from Archbishop Kurtz during the rite of ordination.
Deacon Steven Reeves received the Book of the Gospels from Archbishop Kurtz during the rite of ordination.
Deacon Kirby Rust received the Book of the Gospels from Archbishop Kurtz during the rite of ordination.
Deacon Tony Cecil received the kiss of peace with Archbishop Kurtz. The archbishop extends the fraternal greeting that acknowledges the deacon as a co-worker in the ministry of the church.
The other deacons in the assembly then share this sign with the new deacons.
