Students take part in foreign exchange study

RecordLogo-FTwenty one students from Assumption High School, Mercy Academy and Trinity High School spent the month of June studying at Colegio Santa Ethnea, a school sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as part of the Mercy Ambassadors foreign exchange program.

While there, the students worked with elementary school children. They tutored the children in English and spent time playing games and doing activities with them. The student ambassadors also visited elderly residents at a nursing home.

Four Assumption students also spent the month of June studying at St. Teresa’s School, a school sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy in Johannesburg, South Africa, as part of the exchange program.

While in Johannesburg, the students tutored underprivileged girls who took part in a weekend educational program at St. Teresa’s. They also visited residents at Mercy House, a home for abused women and women who are the victims of human trafficking.

The Mercy Ambassador exchange program began at Assumption in 2007. As part of the exchange program, Assumption, Mercy and Trinity hosted students from Buenos Aires in February. Assumption hosted students from South Africa as well.
