St. Xavier will induct nine into Alumni Hall of Honors

St.X logoNine St. Xavier High School graduates will be inducted into the Alumni Hall of Honors during a ceremony at the Louisville Marriott East Hotel, 1903 Embassy Square Blvd., on Oct. 22.

The alumni, who will be recognized “for their professional, personal or athletic achievements,” according to the school, are:

  • C. Clark Burckle, Jr., a graduate of the class of 2006, is an NCAA swimming champion who was a member of the 2012 USA Olympic team. Burckle was also a medalist in the Pan Am Games, a 2006 national record holder and winner of five Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) individual titles.
  • Raymond Burse, Jr., a graduate of the class of 2002, was drafted as goalkeeper in the 2006 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. While a student at St. Xavier, Burse was named Gatorade State Player of the Year and McDonald’s All-American. He was also a member of the 2000 KHSAA state championship team.
  • Buddy Dumeyer, class of 1974, is the Jefferson County deputy coroner and director of the Indigent Burial Program. Dumeyer also is a retired captain of the Louisville Metro Police Department.
  • David Heintzman, a graduate of the class of 1977, is the chairman and CEO of Stock Yards Bank & Trust and Co. and S.Y. Bancorp, Inc.
  • Isaac Knable, class of 2002, was an NCAA wrestling qualifier for Indiana University and a four-time KHSAA individual state champion. Knable was also a two time KHSAA outstanding wrestler and member of the 2002 KHSAA state championship team.
  • James O. King, who will be posthumously honored, was the founder of King and Company, P.S.C., and president of King Southern Bank. King was a long serving member of the Louisville Metro Council and served for five terms as president of the council. King was a graduate of the class of 1969.
  • Chip Mattingly, class of  1998, played four Bowl Games while a student at the University of Louisville. He signed as a free agent with the Buffalo Bills. While a student at St. Xavier, Mattingly was an All-State football player and member of both the 1995 and 1997 KHSAA state championship teams.
  • Jimmy Tierney, a graduate of the class of 1976, served for 21 seasons as head coach for Northwestern University women’s swimming and diving team where he led the team to five top-12 NCAA championship finishes. He also coached that team to 146 All-America honors. Tierney also served as coach for the USA National Team from 1999-2008.
  • Major General Ed Tonini, class of 1964, is the adjutant general for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He advises the governor on military and emergency management matters.

The induction ceremony will start at 6 p.m. with a cash bar, followed by dinner and the program at 7 p.m. The cost is $75 and reservations can be made by calling 637-8485 or by visiting www.saintx.com/hall.
