St. Xavier students win academic, sports awards

Ten student artists from St. Xavier High School have been recognized for their achievement in various academic and artistic competitions.

The students have earned 13 regional awards from the Kentucky All-State Art Educator’s Association competition. They are: Sam Rittenberry (sculpture), Ian Timothy (video/film), and Zachary Wimmer (ceramics), all of whom won first place awards and will move on to state level judging. Second place winners were Chase Grable (digital art), Colin Kissel (mixed media), Justin Mazzoni (mixed media), Chris Naber (ceramics), Zack Ohlendorf (ceramics), Zachary Wimmer (ceramics), and Ian Timothy (video/film).

Third place and an honorable mention was awarded to Evan Smith (ceramics) and honorable mention honors were awarded to Nick Thompson (mixed media.)

St. Xavier High’s delegation to the 2012 Kentucky United Nations Assembly was recognized as a “Delegation of Excellence” and received an award for “best proposal packet.” Robert Lewis was named Outstanding Speaker and Matthew Kinderman received an Outstanding Ambassador award.

Conner Smith was voted by his peers as the top Security Council member. Chip Raque, Heyes Hagan and Robert Lewis had the second top-rated proposal at the conference.

A team of seniors that included Robert Lewis, Andrew Koroluk and Gabe Sutkamp took first place at the Western Kentucky University Computer Programming Competition, beating a dozen other teams. The St. X team was the only one to successfully solve five problems presented by the WKU computer science faculty.
