St. Stephen Martyr students discuss legislative issues

Emily Desmond and Alex Desmond, eighth-grade students at St. Stephen Martyr School, took part in a legislative gathering at the school in July.

The students and their parents joined representatives from Catholic Charities and Congressman John Yarmuth’s office to discuss issues such as human trafficking and refugee settlement. They also discussed how these issues affect the community.

“This event gave our youth an experience of how church and government can work together for the common good,” said Sharon Schuhmann, pastoral associate at St. Stephen Martyr Church, who along with catechist Mary Waskevich, took part in the discussion.
