St. Martin will re-inter bones of two saints

St. Martin of Tours Church, 639 S. Shelby St., is planning to celebrate a Solemn High Mass in the extraordinary form at noon on Sept. 9 for the reinterment of Saints Magnus and Bonosa whose skeletal remains reside at the church.

The saints, who have flanked the sanctuary of St. Martin since the early 20th century, were removed from their glass cases and wrappings earlier this year to be investigated by a forensic anthropologist.

The remains of the saints have been rewrapped and received new garments made by two women associated with the parish. The saints will be carried in procession during the Mass and replaced in their glass reliquaries at the conclusion. The congregation is invited to venerate the saints afterward.

Holy cards containing a piece of their old garments — considered third class relics — will be available.
