St. Leonard School students honor veterans

Sean Kerger, a first-grade student, held the American flag during a Veteran’s Day service at St. Leonard School Nov. 9.

Students from St. Leonard School, 440 Zorn Avenue, held a special event Friday, Nov. 9, to honor veterans.

Marybeth Stewart, the Student Volunteer Coordinator at the Robley Rex Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and two veterans spoke to the school about Veteran’s Day and their experiences.

The first-grade class, taught by Kristin Wallingford, sang a song, recited a poem and presented letters of appreciation to the veterans present.

In addition to writing letters, students created an ‘Honor Wall’ in the cafeteria featuring veterans they know personally.

Veteran’s Day is Nov. 11.
