St. Joseph School teacher takes part in Green Boot Camp in California

RecordLogo-FValerie Brooks, a sixth- through eighth-grade science teacher at St. Joseph School in Bardstown, Ky., was one of 50 teachers from around the world selected to participate in the Green Boot Camp June 19-23 in San Diego, Calif. The camp was sponsored by Honeywell Building Solutions.

The four-day interactive workshop was designed to provide educators with experience, information and resources on energy efficiency, sustainability and the environment which they could take back to their classrooms.

During the camp Brooks helped build rain barrels for the Escondido fire department, helped renovate the Escondido Pocket Park and assemble compost boxes. Participants also discussed how to apply what they’d learned in their classrooms.
