St. Edward Church to celebrate 130th anniversary

St. Edward Church, 9608 Sue Helen Drive, will observe its 130th anniversary with a weeklong celebration beginning Oct. 17.

A rally for the school’s fall sports teams will kick-off the celebration on St. Edward’s athletic field from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17. The event also will include an open house to show off the school’s new media center, science labs and bathrooms and the athletic field’s new concession stand, ticket office and fencing. Also, the school’s new icon wall — depicting the patron saints of the middle school students’ house communities — will be open for viewing.

On Oct. 18 the parish will celebrate the feast day of St. Edward the Confessor and honor the parish’s history with Mass at 5:30 p.m. and a festival featuring games, hayrides and a dinner. The campus’ new additions and updates also will be open for viewing.

The Oct. 19 Masses will celebrate the parish’s history and patron saint at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. A reception and open house will follow.
A Spanish Mass to celebrate the church’s patron saint will be held Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m.

The anniversary observance will conclude with a school Mass on Oct. 23 at 8 a.m. It will be celebrated by Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, who will bless and dedicate the campus’ new additions after Mass.
