Spalding University will host the 43rd annual Running of the Rodents April 9 in the Spalding University Center Building Ballroom, 824 S. Fourth Street.

The theme of the 0.24-furlong race is “The Great Ratsby,” a tribute to “The Great Gatsby,” a news release from the school said. Local news personalities Jean West and Dawne Gee of WAVE 3 will emcee the races.

A public parade will precede the race at 11 a.m. The parade route begins just south of 901 S. Fourth Street and proceeds through the South Broadway neighborhood. It will end at the University Center.

Rat races will follow with an 11:30 a.m. “call to post.”
