Spalding University announces creation of new scholarship

Spalding University announced the creation of the Patricia Lauderdale and Barbara Miller Endowed Scholarship, an endowed scholarship to support African-American women who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the university.

The scholarship was established by a group of Spalding University alumnae to honor the first African-American graduates of Nazareth College, now Spalding University, who graduated in 1951, a news release from the school said.

The university will host a reception to celebrate the new scholarship Feb. 12 in the Tompkins-Buchanan-Rankin Mansion, 851 S. Fourth St. Community members are welcome to attend but reservations are due by Feb. 5. To make a reservation call 873-7103 or email advancement@spalding.edu.
