Sister Rosemary Nevy, 83, dies Dec. 16 in Louisville

Ursuline Sister Rosemary (Gianetta) Nevy, 83, died Dec. 16 at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville.
Sister Nevy, a native of Cumberland, Md., joined the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville in 1950. She served as general councilor on leadership for the Ursulines from 1972 to 1980.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she taught at St. Anthony, St. Boniface, St. Peter Claver and St. Rita schools in the 1950s. She also taught at Sacred Heart Academy from 1969 to 1993. Sister Nevy also taught at schools in Indiana, Maryland and Nebraska. In 2010, she moved to Mercy Sacred Heart where she continued a ministry of prayer and presence.

Survivors include a brother, John Nevy, of Cumberland; a niece, Frannie Bechtal of Fayetteville, N.C., and members of her Ursuline community.

Visitation will be at the Ursuline Motherhouse, 3115 Lexington Road, today, Dec. 18, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. in the Ursuline Motherhouse Chapel at 3115 Lexington Road. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery.
