Sister Richards, social worker, dies

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Janice Richards, 79, died April 28 at Nazareth Home. She was a professed Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 30 years.

Sister Richards, a native of Chicago, Ill., served in a variety of roles in social service ministries, at Spalding University and with the SCN community.

She served as the assistant manager of the bookstore at Spalding University, where she earned a degree in social work.

From 1993 to 2016, Sister Richards worked in social service ministry at Sacred Heart Southern Missions in Mississippi.

She served the SCN community as a secretary in the Ministry Office on the Nazareth Campus from 1985 to 1986.

She is survived by her twin sister, Janet Richards; her sister Patricia Richards, both of Apollo Beach, Fla.; and by members of her religious community.

A visitation and prayer service will be held April 30 at 1:30 p.m. at Nazareth Home Chapel. A wake will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Nazareth, Ky., April 30 at 6:30 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated May 1 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent. Burial will be in Nazareth Cemetery.
