Sister of Loretto Charles Maureen Walker died March 14 at the Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary in Nerinx, Ky. She was 94 and in her 75th year of religious life.
Sister Walker, a native of Loretto, Ky., entered the Sisters of Loretto at the Foot of the Cross in 1938.
Sister Walker served as a teacher and principal for 46 years in elementary schools in Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri and Ohio. In the Archdiocese of Louisville she was principal of St. Augustine School in Lebanon, Ky., from 1966-1977. She taught French for three years at her alma mater, Webster College (now university) in Webster Groves, Mo.
She also ministered to the elderly and the sick. She lived at the St. Louis Loretto Center until 2011, when she moved to the Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary, where she resided until her death.
Survivors include three sisters, Susan Hughes of Bardstown, Ky., Nell Hughes of Loretto and Marty Thompson of Louisville, along with a number of nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 18 at the Church of the Seven Dolors on the grounds of the Loretto Motherhouse in Nerinx. Burial was at the Loretto Motherhouse Cemetery.
