Sister of Loretto Ann White, 88, dies Feb. 16

Sister of Loretto Ann White (formerly Ann Richard), died Feb. 16 at the Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary in Nerinx, Ky. She was 88 and in her 69th year of religious life.

Sister White, a native of Louisville and a graduate of Loretto High School, was received into the Loretto community in 1945. In 1965, Sister White accompanied Loretto Sister Mary Luke Tobin to Rome for the fourth session of the Second Vatican Council.

She began her teaching career in 1947 at schools in Missouri and Alabama and at the Loretto Junior College in Nerinx. In 1965, she began teaching the at sisters’ Webster College (now Webster University). She chaired the school’s religion department, developed a master’s program in religion during her tenure and directed the school’s campus in Geneva, Switzerland. She also worked in administration at the Art Center, Europe and Switzerland and at Schiller International University. She served as administrator of the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse in Springfield, Ky., from 1999 to 2001.

Sister White also held leadership positions in her community and co-edited the book “Death and Hope” with Harry J. Cargas of Webster University.

Most recently, Sister White taught exercise at the Loretto Motherhouse from 2003 to 2005. She moved to the infirmary in 2005.

She is survived by by her brothers and their spouses, Richard L. and Joree White of Warminster, Penn., and J. David and Inez White of Louisville.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 22 with burial at the Loretto Motherhouse Cemetary.
