Sister of Charity of Nazareth Ruth McAllister, 89, dies

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Ruth McAllister, a native of Columbus, Ohio, died at Nazareth Home in Louisville on Feb. 8. She was 89 years of age and was a professed member of her community for 67 years.

Sister McAllister served in educational and parish ministries in Kentucky, Ohio and Alabama, including St. Augustine and St. Frances of Rome churches in Louisville and St. Brigid Church in Vine Grove, Ky. She worked in the business office at Spalding University, then known as Catherine Spalding College. She also engaged in community service at Nazareth and studied art.

Sister McAllister is survived by her sisters: Jean McFadden, Rose Marie Bigler and Judy Dennison; many nieces and nephews; and her religious community.

The wake will be held on Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Nazareth, Ky. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Feb. 14 at 10:50 a.m., also at St. Vincent de Paul Church.

Visitation will be held Feb. 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Mother of Sorrows Chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery in Lockbourne, Ohio. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph.
