Sister of Charity of Nazareth Louellyn Russell, a teacher, dies at 83

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Louellyn Russell, formerly Sister Ann Joachim Russell, died Aug. 12 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. She was 83 and had been an SCN for 64 years.

Sister Russell, a native of Uniontown, Ky., served as an elementary school teacher in Tennessee, Ohio and Kentucky.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, Sister Russell also served as a physical therapist for 22 years at Maria Hall and at Nazareth Home.

In her later years Sister Russell served in the chaplaincy department at Nazareth Home and Maria Hall. Most recently she served as a volunteer in Candy for Caring at Nazareth Home.

Sister Russell is survived by her sister, Sarah Russell, of Louisville, her nieces, nephews and members of her religious community.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Aug. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent Church in Nazareth, Ky., followed by burial in Nazareth Cemetery.

Visitation will take place Aug. 18 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and after 4 p.m. at St. Vincent. A prayer service will follow at 6:30 p.m.
