Sister of Charity of Nazareth Alice Marita Kern dies

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Alice Marita Kern died at Nazareth Home June 29. She was 89 and had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 69 years.

Sister Kern, a native of Bellevue, Ky., served in elementary education for 37 years as a teacher and a principal in Kentucky and Massachusetts. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she taught at St. Vincent Orphanage and St. Frances of Rome and Most Blessed Sacrament schools. She was principal of St. Brigid School from 1962 to 1965.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews and her religious community.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated July 3 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Vincent Church on the campus of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth near Bardstown, Ky. Burial will be in Nazareth Cemetery.

Visitation will be on July 2 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Nazareth Home in Louisville and after 4 p.m. in St. Vincent Church, Nazareth. A prayer service will be held in the church at 6:30 p.m.
