Sister Mildred “Millie” McGovern, SCN, 86, dies

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Mildred “Millie” McGovern, a native of Hawesville, Ky., died on Feb. 17 at Nazareth Home in Louisville, Ky. She was 86 years old and had been a professed Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 65 years.

Sister McGovern served in educational ministries in Kentucky and Ohio, including St. Joseph in Bardstown, Ky., and St. Matthias and Holy Name in Louisville.

She served as the media center coordinator for the Archdiocese of Louisville and worked in media and communications in Ohio and Texas.

She served her religious community through volunteer work at the Catherine Spalding bookstore and as director of the media center at Nazareth.

Sister McGovern is survived by her sisters: Martha Hamilton, Mary Young, Ann Johnson, Rita McGovern and Marie Ratliff; by her brother John McGovern; by her nieces and nephews; and by her religious community.

A prayer service and visitation will be held at Nazareth Home in Louisville on Feb. 20 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

A wake will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Nazareth, Ky., on Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m.

The funeral Mass will be held on Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Burial will follow in Nazareth Cemetery.

Ratterman Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Ky., is handling the arrangements.
