Sister Joseph Marita Wheatley, 91, dies Feb. 4

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Joseph Marita Wheatley, 91, died at Nazareth Home Feb. 4. She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 72 years.

Sister Wheatley, a native of Waverly, Ky., served in education in Kentucky, Maryland and Virginia as an elementary teacher for 31 years.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she taught at St. Thomas More School from 1944-46 and at St. Barnabas School from 1965-72. She served in the SCN Mission Office, now the Office of Congregational Advancement at Nazareth, Ky., from 1996-2014.

Survivors include nieces, nephews and members of her religious community.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. in St. Vincent Church in Nazareth on Feb. 9. There will be a prayer service in St. Vincent at 6:30 p.m.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Feb. 10 at St. Vincent at 10:30 a.m., followed by burial in Nazareth Cemetery.
