Sister John Robert Banks, SCN, dies

SCNLogo-fSister of Charity of Nazareth John Robert Banks, 92, died at Nazareth Home Oct. 25. She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 74 years.

Sister Banks, a native of South Boston, Mass., served in elementary education in Kentucky, Virginia and Massachusetts.

She also served as community supervisor in Virginia and as associate superintendent in the Archdiocese of Boston. From 1980-1986, she served as SCN Provincial in Massachusetts.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, Sister Banks served as vice president for mission at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital. Following her retirement, she served in the apostolate of prayer.

Survivors include her nephew, Father Michael Banks of New York City, and several other nephews and members of her religious community.

Visitation will be Oct. 28 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Nazareth Home and after 4 p.m. at St. Vincent Church in Nazareth, Ky. There will a prayer service at St. Vincent at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Oct. 29 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Vincent followed by burial in Nazareth Cemetery.
