Sister Jane Miriam Hancock dies

Ursuline Sister of Mount St. Joseph Jane Miriam Hancock died April 6 at Mount Saint Joseph in Maple Mount, Ky. She was 93 and in her 75th year of religious life.

Sister Hancock, a native of Waverly, Ky., served as an educator for more than 50 years in the Archdiocese of Louisville and the Diocese of Owensboro, Ky.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she taught at St. Brigid School, Vine Grove from 1953 to 56; St. Margaret Mary School, 1957-58 and 1959-62; Holy Cross School, Holy Cross, Ky., 1962-64; St. Francis School, Loretto, Ky., 1969-70; St. Charles Junior High School 1970-84 and Marion County High School 1984-94, both in Lebanon, Ky.

She retired in 1994 and continued working as a substitute teacher.

She is survived by a sister, Margaret Louise Coshan, Ontario, Canada; nieces, nephews, and members of her religious community.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated on April 10 at Mount St. Joseph.
