Sister Helen Gertrude Fontaine dies at age 101 in Nazareth, Ky.

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Helen Gertrude Fontaine, 101, a native of Lewiston, Maine, died Dec. 11 at Carrico Hall in Nazareth, Ky. She had been a religious for 83 years.

Sister Fontaine served in elementary, secondary and collegiate education in Kentucky, Massachusetts, Alabama and Virginia for half a century. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she served at Sacred Heart School from 1932 to 1937, and at Catharine Spalding College, now Spalding University, from 1962 to 1965.

Survivors include her former students and members of her religious community.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. in St. Vincent Church in Nazareth on Dec. 13. A prayer service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. that evening.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Dec. 14 at St. Vincent Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Nazareth Cemetery.
