Sister Dorothy Jackson marks 50 years

Sister of Charity of Nazareth (SCN) Dorothy Jackson celebrated her golden jubilee with a special Mass Aug. 12 at St. Martin de Porres Church. The celebration included a renewal of vows and was followed by a dinner. Sister Jackson, a native of Birmingham, Ala., was born to Baptist parents who raised their six children to be Catholic, according to a statement from the SCNs. Sister Jackson joined the Sisters of Humility of Mary and remained with them from 1964 to 1976, when she transferred to the SCNs.  In her 50 years as a religious, she has earned degrees in social science, urban studies and human resources and has worked in local, county, state and federal governments.
