Sister of Charity of Nazareth Mary Eugene Ivie dies at 99

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Mary Eugene Ivie died at age 99 on May 8. She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth (SCN) for 77 years.

Sister Ivie, a native of Whitesville, Ky., served in elementary education as teacher for 32 years in Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Virginia and Maryland.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she taught at Holy Name School from 1948 to 1951 and St. Thomas More School from 1951 to 1955.

She later served in health ministry in Kentucky for 20 years. Since 1992, she has served in the Apostolate of Prayer at the Nazareth, Ky., Motherhouse and at Nazareth Home.

Survivors include a niece, Linda Norton of Evansville, Ind., other nieces and nephews and her religious community.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on May 13. Burial was in Nazareth Cemetery.
