Sister of Charity of Nazareth Lucy Marie Freibert, a professor of English, dies at 93

RecordLogo-FSister of Charity of Nazareth Lucy Marie Freibert, professor of English, died in Carrico Hall on the sisters’ Nazareth, Ky., campus Aug. 11. She was 93 and had been a religious for 69 years.

Sister Freibert, a Louisville native, served in education throughout her career. She taught English at Spalding University and the University of Louisville, where she was a research professor emerita. She also served as a teacher at St. Cecilia and Holy Name schools and at Presentation Academy.

She was also interested in educating women and helped establish Project Women, now called Family Scholar House, which helps single parents attend college full time.
She is survived by members of her religious community.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 17 at St. Vincent Church in Nazareth. Interment will follow in Nazareth Cemetery.
