Sister of Charity Mary Burns, an educator, dies at 88

Sister Burns primarily served in education ministries. Beginning in 1950, she served as an educator at schools in Kentucky and Ohio. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she served at Spalding University from 1974-2000, including as the chair of the Department of Education and as dean of the School of Education. Following her retirement from Spalding, she served as a consultant and helped colleges prepare for national certification.

In the SCN community, she served as a board member of the Nazareth Literary and Benevolent Institution and the SCN Committee for Corporate Responsibility, among others.

She is survived by her sister Sister Charles Mary Burns, nieces and nephews and members of the SCN community.

Visitation will be held at Nazareth Home Nov. 2 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. A prayer service will be held at St. Vincent Church in Nazareth, Ky., at 6:30 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 3 at St. Vincent with burial in Nazareth Cemetery.
