Sister Barbara Ann Shultz dies at 94

Sister of Loretto Barbara Ann Shultz died Dec. 7 at the Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary. She was 94 and had been a Sister of Loretto at the Foot of the Cross for 73 years.

Sister Shultz was a native of Olney, Ill. She earned music degrees from Webster College (now University) and Chicago Musical College. She made final vows in 1948.

She was a musician and teacher and served for 40 years in Catholic schools in Colorado, Illinois, Missouri, New Mexico and Texas.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, Sister Shultz served at the Loretto Motherhouse as a gardener, driver and assisted as a postmistress. In 2005, she moved to Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary in Nerinx, Ky., where she carried out a ministry of prayer and community service until her death.

She was cremated and her remains will be buried at Loretto Motherhouse Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Seven Dolors on the grounds of the Loretto Motherhouse.
