At Right to Life of Louisville’s annual Celebration of Life Banquet on Feb. 28, six local Catholics were honored for their efforts to promote a culture of life.

Sister of Mercy Mary Prisca Pfeffer was awarded the organization’s first “Protector of Life Award” which, according to Right to Life of Louisville’s executive director, Margie Montgomery, will be named for Sister Prisca, as she is known throughout the Archdiocese of Louisville. It will be presented yearly in Sister Pfeffer’s honor.

Five other people were also honored at the banquet, which was held at the Crown Plaza Hotel. The Schuhmann A. Montgomery Sr. “Volunteer of the Year Award” was presented to the family of Albert and Rosanna Utter and their son, Michael, members of St. Gabriel Church.

The “Educational Foundation Award” was given to Chris Walker, a member of St. Agnes Church, and the Dr. Albert J. Schweitzer “Humanitarian of the Year Award” was presented to Theo Stearns, a Third Order Dominican and founder of Catholics United for Life in New Hope, Ky.
