10 ways to help foster children

The Archdiocese of Louisville’s Family Ministries and Pro-Life Office will present “10 Ways to Help Children in Foster Care” on Oct. 10 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 7813 Shelbyville Road.

The evening will include stories from foster parents and talks by Darren Washausen, executive director of Orphan Care Alliance, and a representative from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

Pro-life coordinator for the Archdiocese of Louisville, Ed Harpring, will discuss ways to volunteer, mentor, and help children in foster care.

Mass for those who’ve lost children

A Mass for mothers and fathers who have lost children through miscarriage, stillbirth or early childhood death, will be offered on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Woods at Bellarmine University, 2001 Newburg Rd.

Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Rd., offers a prayer service for families to remember those children who were stillborn or died at a very young age on the last Wednesday of the month at 1:30 p.m. in the Holy Innocents section of the cemetery.


End-of-life panel discussion

A panel of experts, including Father Patrick Dolan and Mike Ahrens, will present “A Catholic Perspective – Understanding and Preparing for End of Life Decisions” at St. Gabriel Church, 5505 Bardstown Rd., on Oct. 8 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Topics covered will include end-of-life ethics, advance directives, health care proxy, extraordinary care, and first-hand end-of-life experiences.


Prayer for an end to abortion

The Helpers of God’s Precious Infants will hold a Mass followed by a rosary procession and Benediction at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 S. Fifth St., on Oct. 12 at 7 a.m. All are invited to pray for an end to abortion and to celebrate the gift of life.


40 Days vigil for life

40 Days for Life, which began last month, will continue through Nov. 3. Participants pray, fast and keep vigil at the abortion clinic in downtown Louisville.
