Program to honor women religious to be July 19

A program called “The Way of the Sisters” to honor the legacy of religious order sisters in the Archdiocese of Louisville will be held today, July 19, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Patterson Education Center, 424 S. Fifth St., across from the Cathedral of the Assumption.

The program will include a presentation by Sister of Charity of Nazareth Mary Ellen Doyle, author of The Pioneer Spirit: Catherine Spalding, Sister of Charity of Nazareth. Sister Doyle will portray Mother Catherine Spalding and depict the establishment of Presentation Academy, which began its history on the present site of the Cathedral of the Assumption.

At 6 p.m. participants will board a bus for a 90-minute guided tour of historical landmark sites throughout Louisville where women religious have made significant contributions such as caring for the young, the sick, the poor and hungry, or participating in social justice activities.

Brochures will be available describing each site included on the tour and a reception will be held at the Patterson Education Center at the tour’s conclusion. The cost is $20.
