Passionist Father Alfonso San Juan, 90, died Sept. 29 at Nazareth Home.
Father San Juan, a native of Langayo, Valladolid, Spain, professed vows as a Passionist in 1950 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1960.
Following ordination, he served in Bolivia, Panama and Mexico. He arrived in the U.S. in 1974 where he ministered to Spanish-speaking Catholics in Texas and later in California. Following his decades of ministry, he retired to the Passionist Monastery in Louisville and later Nazareth Home.
He is survived by his brother, Passionist Father Antonio San Juan of Quito, Ecuador, as well as three other brothers, six sisters and many nieces and nephews who all reside in Spain.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 3 at St. Agnes Church with burial in the Passionist Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Passionist Community, 1924 Newburg Road, Louisville, Ky., 40205.
