Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass held at St. Bartholomew

Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz celebrated a Mass at St. Bartholomew Church, 2042 Buechel Bank Road, Dec. 12 to commemorate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Deacon Frank Villalobos, director of Hispanic Ministry for the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry and permanent deacon at St. Bartholomew, Father Peter Quan Do, pastor of St. Barthomoloew, and Father Roy Stiles assisted in the liturgy.

In the 16th century, Mary appeared to St. Juan Diego in the Tepeyac desert, near Mexico City. Our Lady asked St. Diego to build a church on the location where she appeared to him.

The archbishop also presided at a 5:30 a.m. Mass at St. Dominic Church in Springfield, Ky., in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Both Masses were organized by the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry.
