New Directions Housing Corporation dedicates housing community

New Directions Housing Corporation and Wellspring, Inc. recently completed the Wellspring Tonini housing community, a $2.4 million redevelopment of the historic Tonini retail site and surrounding properties at Shelby and Grey streets in the Phoenix Hill neighborhood. A joint news release from the organizations said the site was dedicated June 20.

The renovation will allow for a 12-unit housing community for Wellspring, Inc., which provides housing and psychiatric rehabilitative services to people who have mental illness.

The Wellspring Tonini site was developed by New Directions Housing Corporation, a nonprofit community development corporation founded in 1969 by members of St. William Church. New Directions owns and manages almost 1,000 housing units located in more than 100 historic buildings in Metro Louisville, the release said.
