Mercy presents award to Joe Bergamini

St. Xavier High School teacher Joe Bergamini has been selected to receive Mercy Academy’s Educator of the Year Award.

The award, presented annually at Mercy’s commencement ceremony, honors an innovative “leader in Catholic education in Jefferson County” who is a scholar and cares deeply for students, an announcement from the school said.

Bergamini, a teacher for more than 25 years who also coaches basketball, is “a prime example of who we want our students and teachers to be,” according to one of his nominations.

The nominations note that he serves as a volunteer at Mercy, though his daughter has graduated. The nominations also describe him as a kind, gentle, patient, devoted and compassionate man of faith.
