Mass in Swahili planned at St. Augustine April 28 – CANCELLED

The Archdiocese of Louisville’s first Swahili Mass (Kiswahili Misa), originally set on April 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 1310 W. Broadway, will now be postponed.

Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz will preside and Father Deogratias Ssamba, a member of the Apostles of Jesus, will concelebrate.

Swahili is a common second language among people in parts of Africa who have different native languages. Swahili has official status in some countries.

According to the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry, Swahili is spoken by many members of the Catholic community in the area.

The Mass in Swahili will be offered once a month.

All are welcome to attend the inaugural Mass. A reception will follow the liturgy in the parish’s Hines Center.

A new date will be set soon.
